Success Strategies for Working with At-Risk Students
Learn why punitive approaches don't work with youth who are beyond the fear of consequence. Learn effective approaches to disarming potential negative situations that easily arise in challenged environment. Learn why remaining calm under pressure increases the possibility for successful outcomes.
Our proven strategies have produced in-classroom successes that reduced truancy, improved grades, reduced dropout and increased graduation. Through working directly in the classroom with teachers and at-risk youth, we observed, interacted, influenced behavior and gleaned data that we share with others.
Curriculum and study guide
Our curriculum "Everything I Need to Succeed is Inside Me," and study guide are great resources for any teacher looking for tools to address at-risk behavior. Teachers are able to identify trouble areas in the classroom and create lesson plans using curriculum content. The curriculum compliments the 40 developmental assets from the Search Institute.
Pod cast
Teachers are in constant search for resources for classroom discussion. Our pod cast are created from conversations we have with at-risk students in a classroom setting. Topics range from first impressions to character. The pod cast are available on a twice a month basis.
Our monthly newsletter allows teachers to hear from other teachers who are faced with common challenges. Subscribers are able to submit stories and share insight with others. Subscribers to the newsletter will also have access to our on line blog. The blog enables real time conversation between teachers and our facilitators.
On-site consultation
We offer on-site consultation to schools who participate in our teacher training. A facilitator will visit your school and sit in on a class. The facilitator will (upon request) observe classroom interaction and provide a detailed observation. Teachers will be provided strategies to overcome challenges.
Student Empowerment Program
Our "Student Empowerment Program" uses life skill development and critical thinking training to teach young people how to connect a quality education to their future financial well being. The program seeks to overcome the boredom many young people associate with school and replace it with a genuine desire to learn.
The institute for Student Empowerment works with parents, teachers, and other professionals as requested. Our staff can attend IEP meetings, and support classroom instructors. Parents are provided with regular reports and feedback.
